Blue-La-La

Although the sun never managed to break through the gray, wintry overcast,  today's temperatures climbed to almost 60 degrees Fahrenheit, warm enough to consider wearing something other than slacks to Washington D.C. for a day of research at the Library of Congress on behalf of my employer.  In fact, it was a perfect weather day to try out a pleated navy Michele skirt I received recently in a box of gently used clothing from my best friend, Kari's, mother, Joyce, in Spokane, Washington.

Since the only indigo-hued jumpers I own are heavy woolen ski sweaters which would have been too warm for today’s milder clime, I chose a simple long-sleeved ribbed-knit top instead. All that dark blue cried out for something bold, so I chose a gorgeous cobalt scarf with bright gold floral ornamentation by Anne McAlpin that Kari brought back to me from France several years ago. The scarf is embellished with famous Parisian landmarks, such as the L’Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and the Garnier Opera House. It was the perfect foil for my otherwise monochromatic ensemble.

I pulled the silk beauty through a mixed-metal scarf-slide adorned with a square agate that I ordered from a mail-order house decades ago, and chose some mixed-metal earrings to match. I added a gold-beaded cuff bracelet I found at Cost Plus World Imports last month, my most comfortable nude platform pumps by Call It Spring for JCPenney, and called it a "wrap".

My Français-inspired outfit must have made a good impression. When I stopped at the supermarket for Thanksgiving provisions on the way home from work, a man pushing a shopping cart behind his wife let out a barely audible but enthusiastic "whoop" as he passed by me.  That hearty endorsement really made my day. Ooh-la-la!
