Copper Top

I happily spent my Friday evening enjoying good food, good wine and wonderful friends at the "First Friday" event hosted by my dear friend Roya Golpira and the staff of Gutierrez Studios (http://gutierrezstudios.com/), a custom metalworking shop in Baltimore City founded by Roya’s longtime partner and significant other, John Gutierrez, who died of cancer a couple of years ago. This monthly open house honors John’s memory by celebrating his love of a "good party", while at the same time showing off the most recent work being put out by Gutierrez Studios and highlighting fundraising efforts for the John Gutierrez Memorial Fund, which promotes careers in metalworking and other arts.

Friday night’s sustenance featured make-your-own tacos by Clementine’s Restaurant and Catering in Baltimore (http://bmoreclementine.com/), with no less than three types of fixings, from cilantro and cumin-seasoned chicken, to shrimp marinated with lime, jalapeno and chipotle chilis, and Frijoles Barrachos (drunken beans). I especially liked the avocado tomatillo sauce which I spooned over the fillings.  Delicious!

Music was provided by "Let The Monkey Go", a funk/rock band featuring former and current members of George Clinton’s legendary funkadelic family. As the band performed all the P-Funk classic hits last night, I danced all those taco calories away in my sky-high platform pumps by Call It Spring for JCPenney while wearing a glittery, copper-hued turtleneck sweater with copper sequins on the front placket from Macy’s, over a vintage black leather miniskirt from Wilson’s House of Suede and Leather that I bought in northern California in the 1970s.

I added a sparkly copper bracelet and earrings from Chico’s, a swirly copper ear cuff that I found at the Laurel, Maryland, Renaissance Festival last fall, and a gold-metal bracelet watch, also from Chico’s. I wore my hair long and straight, adorning it only with a copper-colored Dea Dread custom made for me by Theo Osato of Baltimore (http://deadreads.etsy.com/), and carried a copper-colored evening bag which was a gift to me several years ago from Joyce, the mother of my best friend, Kari.

What a fun evening!
Cheers,
Lynell
